In the story "The Kite Runner" by the author "Khaled Hoesseini" there are many different levels of Loyalty and Betrayal, and I hope this website can explain to you some of those levels.
In the Kite Runner betrayal and loyalty are main idea's. To be loyal to someone or something means to be faithful or a strong feeling of allegiance. There are many different points in the story where loyalty takes lead, and most of the time betrayal follows the loyalty. The two main characters that have many incidents involving loyalty and betrayal are Hassan, and Amir. Hassan is a young boy that not only lost his mother, but was rejected by her. When Sanaubar, Hassan's mother gave birth to Hassan, she realized he had a cleft lip and refused to even hold Hassan. The sentence written stated "Sanaubar had taken one glance at the baby in Ali's arms, seen the cleft lip, and barked a bitter laughter." After five days Hassan's mother was gone. Hassan was always still joy-filled and selfless, even with being rejected by his mother. Hassan always put others before himself, especially Amir. Amir was Hassan's best friend, defending Amir from everything and anything, even if it hurt himself. Amir on the other hand showed betrayal to Hassan many times. Hassan never held a grudge against Amir, even with all the wrong things done to him by Amir. Hassan stayed positive and loyal throughout the story. Amir is Hassan's best friend. Amir grew up living a decent life. Amir had a loving father that cared and provided for him. Amir also had a great best friend/half brother, that he took advantage of many times. Amir lost his mother while she was giving birth to him, which he may have felt responsible for. Amir felt very jealous of his half brother Hassan, and wanted his father Baba to be proud and to love him. Amir was determined to be the best son and gain much love and respect from Baba.
